A true classic of late 1970s Thaw Cinema, Autumn Marathon is one of the late, great Soviet comedies. Winner of prizes from Berlin to Venice, this much lauded film stars great Soviet actor Oleg Basilashvili as a married translator in Leningrad who is desperately trying to survive his mid-life crisis and tangled relationships with his wife, much younger mistress, neighbours and co-workers. Sometimes absurd, sometimes bittersweet, a perfect watch for a summer evening.
